This week we will look at Race and decide how similar or dissimilar we are. I think that many of us would agree that all humans originated from the same stock or species if you will (from Africa). Over time, different groups migrated and adapted (physically) to their new environments. Still, these physical differences have been used and misused over the years.
While our DNA and the very composition of who we are defines us a human beings or homo sapien, there is certainly an identity or a classification we hold more dearly...race. Yesterday I was having dinner with a friend when a young white couple entered the restaurant. The mother was holding an infant in her arms and when she held him up and turned his body so could face his, "daddy" I was shocked to see that the child was Black. Both my friend and I were obviously bothered. Why should we be? Isn't it better that a child have a home and parents to love him regardless of race. In my mind, the simple answer should be yes. However, I can't help but feel that "these people" cannot properly raise or care for a black child. What does a white man know or understand about being a black man? How can he then teach his son to be a black man? I could go on and on but what are your thoughts?

I believe a child should be given love, affection, care and norture. And to me, it does that matter if your parents are white and you are Black. Once you treat that child like a human being and give him or her that neccesities for survival you are a good parent. Anyone could be good parent regarldless of race. Racism has taken a hold on us. Every where we go we cannot help but indentify a White and Black couple or a group of White kids with only one Black child among them. That is the way our world have become today anti- social for some.
ReplyDeleteIt's hard for me to say because i would rather a child be raised in a loving environment but there are a lot of variables in being black in America. A white family might not have all the answers especially for a black boy becoming a man society can be very unkind as well as unfair white man or woman may not understand this very sensitive subject of race relations between the cops and a black young man.
ReplyDeleteI do agree that it would be difficult for a white man to teach that child how to be a black man in our society. This white coulple might not be able to teach this child or prepare him for some of the problems he might face being a black man. But when considering the situation from a different angle maybe this family has the resources to give him a great childhood creating a man strong enough to survive in todays world reguardless of race. In reality a man is a man and the lessons we got through in life, either white or black, create the man we will become.
