Science Under Fire

Do you think scientist have the ability to play God? Does science ultimately harm or help us? What are your opinions about controversial topics such as cloning, fertility drugs, animal testing, man-made drugs etc?

  1. Scientist are now placing themselves in position where they are playing God. Scientist are definitely in position where science is on a thin line between help and harm. There are many ways where scientist and their studies are needed to help better our world, such as studies on AIDS, Cancer and other diseases. The problem with some of these studies is that things such as cloning will disturb the natural order of the world. Cloning animals is still not proven to be safe, for the animal or the world around it. The effects of cloning are unknown and subject to hypothesis. Dolly the sheep was the first mammal cloned and a variety of issues came about. Dolly was born after 277 eggs were used to create 29 embryos, which only produced three lambs at birth. Out of the three lambs only Dolly Survived. In most other attempts all specimens died young. Many scientists believe this was the cause of accelerated aging due to the cloning process. The normal life cycle of a sheep is 10-20 years where dolly died in six showing us that cloning does not replicate the normal life cycle of an animal.

  4. I don't logically believe that anyone can "play" at being God. Of course to mix logic and the mysteries of religion together is kind of an oxymoron. From a scientific point of view the information is out there for us to explore. The whole Tower of Babel and God sending man into a tale spin by giving us different languages is a factor but i firmly believe science is a door way of fascinating exploration.

I believe God's purpose is to be God of the Universe and beyond. Somehow i don't readily accept scientists scraping some bone and egg specimens together and putting it in a green room to create sheep is equal to Gods magnitude. Admittedly I'm over simplifying but anyone can plant a a seed and see a plant grow. Or in a lab remove a nucleus and implant stem cells into an adult egg and watch a sheep grow?

  5. Im not completely opposed to the experimentations in science if as long as it for the good of society as opposed to the bad. Fertility drugs can be helpful in some cases I have a niece that is a product of fertilization drugs, so I myself can never be against that form of science. I am opposed to animal testing because I am against anything that involves cruelty against animals or otherwise. I do believe sometimes man goes to far but it is all about discovery you have to experiment in order to learn, so there is gonna be some bad as well as good when comes to science trying to place of God.
